Having a mom who’s born and raised in Agusan del Norte gave me the opportunity to enjoy two things: Crabs and Shrimps. I could even recall the laugh we have during those times we would know of crabs who were able to escape the pot, never to be seen or heard of again. Crabs and shrimps would always bring me closer to home, that’s why I was happy to receive an invitation from the newest restaurant in town called CLAWDADDY’S
Clawdaddy’s Great American Picnic has finally opened in SM Lanang Premiere, and they hosted a lunch treat for bloggers and media friends. Clawdaddy’s is proud to serve seafood cuisine, and from the looks of it, I think it was going to be one heavy eating. We were seated in our assigned picnic table, and was given a big bib to wear. Now I was happy to get my hands all dirty picking up clams, shellfish, shrimps, crabs, as the menu cascaded one by one.
Clawdaddy’s uses Cajun seafood cooking, which means that their recipe finds its origins from the state of Louisiana in the United States. Sources state that an authentic Cajun meal is usually a three-pot affair, with one pot dedicated to the main dish, one dedicated to steamed rice, special made sausages, or some other seafood dish, and the third containing whatever vegetable is plentiful or available. Ground Cayenne & Fresh Black Pepper are used often. Cooking methods are quite simple too, as it involves a lot of boiling, braising, and grilling.
The instant crowd favorite is the Clawdaddy Famous Seafood Boil. This is an assortment of crab, rock lobster, fresh water prawns, mussels, clams, andouille sausage, corn on a cob and baby potatoes simmered in Clawdaddy’s seafood broth. It is served in a cooking bag, where you have to cut it open and a gush of aromatic steam comes out. For “pinoy” eaters, I recommend that you attack the broth first, either sipping it or pouring it in your rice. It is definitely flavorful. Then once again, enjoy picking different kinds of seafood from the bag, as you refill your rice bowl over and over again to your fill.
For those who are unfortunately allergic to seafood, there is no need for you to worry not being able to dine at Clawdaddy’s. Aside from their seafood menu, they also have other mouth-watering choices that are equally delectably irresistible. You can choose from their salad specials (a good one to balance the meat), soups and the barbecue menu. Should I interest you with barbecue Baby Back Ribs? Here’s a photo of the full rack that was served to us. Easily feeds 2-3, of course depending on your appetite for meat.
Lastly, to complete your dining experience, don’t forget to ask the kitchen for their Davao homegrown ingredients menu. This is Clawdaddy’s commitment to fine dining and promotion of fresh Davao based ingredients.
Clawdaddy’s Great American Picnic is located at the ground floor of SM Lanang Premier, Lanang, Davao City.
